Rice

Project Overview

The centerpiece of this contemporary backyard in Cypress is a cabana that seems to float in the middle of the pool. Stepping pads lead across the water to the shaded island lounge, and a rain curtain spills from its roofline.

A sunken fire-pit lounge, a raised spa and a tanning ledge give every guest a place to settle in. The covered outdoor kitchen and dining room sit right off the house. After dark, programmable color lighting turns the whole yard into a show.

The Challenge

Give a clean, modern look to deck drains, which are normally ugly.

What We Did

We installed linear drains in the concrete structure, between the patio and the pool. When our tile installer laid the deck tile, we left a ½” gap directly over the drain.

This leaves a very clean line that is designed into the pool deck on purpose, so it does not look ugly or like an afterthought.
