Project Overview
A U-shaped series of covered loggias wraps this courtyard pool in The Heights, creating outdoor rooms on three sides. Herringbone brick paving and a warm hardwood deck frame a geometric pool with sharp, clean edges.
A tanning ledge with in-water loungers and a glowing fire feature make it an easy place to spend the evening. A gabled pavilion with its own seating area anchors the far end, and soft lighting brings out the texture of the brick and wood after dark.
The Challenge
The deck has multiple material changes and elevation changes, with finished thicknesses from ¾” to 3”.
What We Did
We make it look easy, but it took extensive meetings to calculate the elevation of the pool shell and each deck step, because the deck is not just one material. When the full concrete base is poured, it can look like the steps were built wrong.
Once the finished materials are installed, every step comes out at an even 6” difference. Work like this takes time, proper communication and experience with complex outdoor living projects.
