The Clubs at Houston Oaks

Project Overview

This is resort-scale aquatic design for a private club setting. A sweeping lagoon pool with a sandy-style beach entry opens onto rows of draped cabanas. A rock grotto with lit stone stairs carries a water slide down into the pool, and a splash pad keeps the youngest guests busy.

Tuscan-style stone pavilions, a timber-beamed loggia, louvered pergolas and lit promenades tie the amenity together under a canopy of live oaks. It is a destination from the morning swim to the evening event.

The Challenge

Create an underground drainage system that allows for water table movement and prevents uplift on the pool shell.

What We Did

We over-dug the entire pool shell by 16”, mixed lime into the base layer and added 8” of crushed rock with a network of perforated 6” drain lines. Every line connects to a basin 14’ deep at the edge of the pool, so any extra water coming up into the drainage layer escapes to the basin and is pumped out to the surface.

We also installed concrete piers and carton forms to stop the expansive soils from lifting any section of the pool. On commercial pool construction at this scale, this work below the shell matters as much as what guests see above it.
